Date/Time Frequency: Normally, we meet on the third Sunday of each month with the exception of July and August. Our meetings begin at 3:00 PM and last two hours. See below for specific date/time information.
Location: Our meetings are normally held in the Masonic Lodge meeting facility located at the Mississippi Agriculture & Forestry Museum, 1150 Lakeland Drive, Jackson, MS. However, please check the schedule below for specific meeting locations each month. Our location may change occasionally due to planned activities. Schedule: Sunday, January 17, 2010, 3:00 PM, Monthly Meeting
We're having a plant swap this month! Last year's plant and seed swap was so successful that we want to do it again. So dig up and divide your "extra" perennials or other plants that you want to share. Bring these to the meeting for trading and be ready to take home armfuls of plants and seeds. Snacks as usual. Location: Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum.
Friday-Saturday, January 22 - 23, 2010, ARS Gulf District Mid-Winter Workshop
The Baton Rouge Rose Society is hosting the annual ARS Gulf District Mid-Winter Workshop during January 22-23, 2010 in Baton Rouge, LA. This year's workshop promises to be an exciting and informative meeting! Dr. Mark Windham from the University of Tennessee and Dr. Dale Pollet of the LSU AgCenter are the keynote speakers this year. Saturday, February 6, 2010, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM, Annual Pruning Party at the Ag Museum
Our annual pruning party at the Mississippi Agriculture & Forestry Musuem Rose Garden is our meeting this month. Please join us to have fun and fellowship as we work to increase the health and beauty of the museum's roses. The cuttings from these roses are yours to keep! Don't forget your gloves, pruners/loppers/clippers and saws. Location: Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum.
Saturday, February 20, 2010, 8:30 AM - Until, Gardens of the American Rose Center Pruning Party
The Gardens of the American Rose Center in Shreveport, LA is hosting its Annual Pruning Party on Saturday, February 20th, beginning at 8:30 AM. The American Rose Center consists of 188 acres with 65 individual gardens. Join other rose society volunteers and members of the public to enhance the beauty of the gardens. Don't forget your gloves, pruners/loppers/clippers and saws. Location: Shreveport, LA.
March 19 - 21, 2010, Society booth at the Jackson Plant & Patio Show
Volunteers are working at the Jackson Plant & Patio Show in the Mississippi Trade Mart to provide information to the public and answer questions about Old Garden Roses and rose culture in general. The Jackson Plant & Patio Show is located at the Mississippi Fairgrounds Complex - just east of downtown Jackson at the corner of Pearl and High Streets. If you plan to shop at the show during this weekend, be sure to drop by our booth and visit with our volunteers. Volunteers - thank you for your time and commitment to our organization - we couldn't do it without you! Location: Mississippi Fairgrounds Complex, 1207 Mississippi Street, Jackson, MS.
Sunday, April 18, 2010, 3:00 PM, Garden Tour - Ag Museum Rose Garden
That's right! We're touring the rose garden at the Mississippi Agriculture & Forestry Museum this month. The garden is beautiful this time of year and in full bloom. This tour will provide an opportunity for us to learn about the garden adn the roses that are doing well in our area - besides walking away with a thousand ideas and having an enjoyable time! Snacks and plant swap too at the meeting. Don't miss this one. Location: Mississippi Agriculture & Forestry Museum
