Date/Time Frequency: Normally, we meet on the third Sunday of each month with the exception of July and August. Our meetings begin at 3:00 PM and last two hours. See below for specific date/time information.
Location: Our meetings are normally held in the Masonic Lodge meeting facility located at the Mississippi Agriculture & Forestry Museum, 1150 Lakeland Drive, Jackson, MS. However, please check the schedule below for specific meeting locations each month. Our location may change occasionally due to planned activities. We're having our annual plant and seed swap this month. Dig up and divide your "extra" perennials/other plants or seeds that you want to share. Bring these to the meeting for trading and be ready to take home armfuls of plants and seeds. Don't miss this one! Snacks at the meeting. Location: Mississippi Agriculture & Forestry Museum.
Saturday, February 11, 2012, 9:00 AM - 11:30 AM, Annual Pruning Party at the Ag Museum Rose Garden
Due to rain last weekend, we've rescheduled our pruning party to this day. Please join us at the Mississippi Agriculture & Forestry Museum Rose Garden for our annual pruning party. Have fun and fellowship as we work to increase the health and beauty of the museum's roses. The cuttings from these roses are yours to keep. February 10 - 11, 2012, ARS Gulf District Mid-Winter Conference
This year's annual ARS Gulf District Mid-Winter Workshop is being held at the lovely Natchez Grand Hotel - on the bluff overlooking the Mississippi River. The meeting itinerary includes a silent auction and programs on growing roses including fertilization, rose nutrition, diseases, pests (good and bad) and safety with chemicals. New and upcoming roses will also be featured. This workshop promises to be an exciting and informative meeting! Please plan to attend, Everyone is encouraged to come Friday afternoon and enjoy a jambalaya dinner at the hotel. Plans are being made to have an entertaining speaker after dinner. Hotel reservations should be made no later than January 10 to receive the special rate of $109 + tax. Use the group code; "Gulf District". Saturday, February 18, 2012, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM, Gardens of the American Rose Center Pruning and Planting Party.
The Gardens of the American Rose Center in Shreveport, LA is hosting its Annual Pruning Party on Saturday, February 18, from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM. The public is invited to help ARS care for their roses. The American Rose Center consists of 118 acres with 65 individual gardens. In addition to pruning, 600 rose bushes will also be planted. Join other rose society volunteers and members of the public to enhance the beauty of the gardens.
March 16 - 18, 2012 - Society Booth at the Jackson Plant & Patio Show
Volunteers are working at the Jackson Plant & Patio Show in the Mississippi Trade Mart to provide inforamtion and answer questions about EarthKind roses, Dr. Griffith Buck Roses, Old Garden Roses and general rose culture. The Jackson Plant & Patio Show is located at the Mississippi Fairgrounds Complex - just east of downtown Jackson at the corner of Pearl and High Streets. If you plan to shop at the show on this weekend, be sure to drop by our booth and visit with our volunteers.
